    Many people don't understand the purpose of a jackplate. Using more set back makes it harder to lift the boat. It makes the effective length longer.
    Look at it this way. Hold a sledge hammer out in front of you, parallel to the ground and choke up about 8 inches on the handle. Now slide hand to the end and repeat. Which way is the easiest to hold up?
