Will the power card used for a Gen 2-9 and 12 work with Carbon 12's? Will Lowrance HST-WSBL work with a Carbon 12 or do I need the converter cable to make it work? Is the HST-WSBL the best option for an external mount 2-d sonar on a Carbon 12? Thanks
Yes to all. Except what do you mean by “best”. The Skimmer is the best that Lowrance offers but there are aftermarket CHIRP transducers by Airmar that are much better AND much more expensive.

To elaborate on NoCALs otherwise good info, the best 2D-transducers for transom mount aplications and shallow to medium depth fishing in combination with Lowrance are:
1. Airmar TM185HW
2. Airmar TM165HW
3. Airmar TM150M
4. Lowrance 83/200-HDI (The same ceramic element as in TotalScan and AI 3i1)
5. Lowrance HST-WSBL
