1997 efi 175 water spitting out lower cowl exhaust

Noticed today while boat was idling tied up to dock. Water spitting out of the exhaust outlet in the lower cowling. Is this normal or does it need to be addressed?

Well i just ran it on the muffs at home, and it didnt do it. Only exhaust gas coming out. Must have something to do with the backpressure running in the lake? Heres a pic of where the water was dribbling/spitting out of.20211121_132732.jpg20211121_132732.jpg

It’s normal, some water goes into the exhaust and that outlet is the idle relief port. it won’t do it on the muffs because most of the exhaust goes out the prop. When the motor is in the water the water rises up the exhaust pretty high, this prevent the exhaust from going out at idle, thus the idle relief port. Some water goes out the exhaust to keep it cooler.

Normal. Can also show on the hose attachment- but is much more common when in the water with back-pressure.
