    Prop for repower

Pretty confused and hope to get a little feedback

repowered a ranger 520vx with a new 225 Yamaha sho. Previous motor was 225 hpdi

Been breaking it in like the book says.

With everything seeming on back order I just put the 25 pitch vmax prop on the new motor. However I’m only getting about 3/4 throttle when I hit 6,000 rpm. For a few seconds I went full throttle and had good acceleration but the tach was saying 7,000 rpm so I let out obviously. Never hit a rev limiter. I really think the tach is off or not calibrated correctly.

does this sound like a prop issue or more of a tach issue? From what I’ve read it seems either a 25 or 23 pitch prop should be correct so I just can’t see it being the prop?

obviosuly I will call dealer Monday and try to figure it out but just wondered what you guys might think.

Probably will have to change your tach setting on back of tach. Which setting I’m not sure

Tach. Check the recommended setting for the dial on the back to set magnetic poles. May be different with new motor

If memory serves me correctly, the tach should be set to 6 pulses (6P).
