    I said I didn't need a big truck and went from a F-150 to a Ranger.

    I wish I hadn't.

I miss all the room I had not only in the bed but the back seat as well.

I’ve acted on this thought twice and sold my 2015 Tacoma and 2018 Tacoma within a year of ownership. I loved the idea of having a mid size due to foot print, somehow thinking I’d get better fuel savings, and for some god forsaken reason, believing that I’d take a brand new 40k truck on off road trails for fun. Full sizes cost just about the same, get the same, if not better MPG, and don’t get blown around on the interstate. I moved to a 18 2500 Cummins this last time and it was 100% the right decision. Only thing I’d consider now is a 3/4 ton or a 1/2 ton with a ecodiesel or the baby duramax.

You WILL miss having a full size truck. If you do happen to go smaller, look at the new Colorado and Ranger. That Nissan might be "updated" but it will always fall behind all the other trucks. Like everything else Nissan makes. I believe it's on the same old chassis too. Tacoma is nice as well but compared to the new Colorado and Ranger, it rides rough, and is outdated.

I did it once. When my 2001 Tundra went tits up with over 400K miles, I could not find another so I leased a Tacoma. It was reliable, tough and just what I expected out of the Tacoma but I missed the ride and room of the Tundra. I went back to a Tundra at the end of the lease and have not regretted one bit. I tow quite a bit more than you and never felt under powered or unable to stop with the Tacoma. In other uses like hauling, hunting and traveling the Tundra just was just more comfortable and better in almost every category except mpg.
