    Mid size crank rod

    All,
I’ve been looking for the best mid size crankbait rod- something to throw warts, bandits 200/300’s , etc. been a struggle for me.

ive tried a crankin stick, lews KVD and a loomis CBR but haven’t found the “one”.

    any ideas are welcome!

    thanks in advance

I throw lighter cranks on a Daiwa Tatula Elite 7’2” M glass rod. I really like how it fishes lighter crankbaits and 1.5s. I usually have one with a Bandit 200 or a Rapala X-Rap series 6 on 1 and a 1.5 on the other.

I use a Powell Endurance 724cb for those baits. I like it and works well. Lesser known brand, Phenix, makes a couple nice similar cranking rods.

250 it would be a 704cb or 704 glass cb from dobyns. If you like your crankbait rod very parabolic then the glass. If you like it less limber the the regular 704. For the money these are the best crankbait rods in my opinion. I have some gloomis crankbait rods that I love also but those are in the 350 dollar range. This time of year I have about 10 crankbait rods on the deck with the same size crankbaits you are wanting to throw. I have used a lot of crankbait rods through the years.

If you want the best for that application, find a custom builder and tell them to build with a Rodgeeks s glass 7 mhm blank in whatever configuration you like.

I like the Shimano Zodias 7 foot medium glass. I have a hard time finding a rod that is sensitive to crank with but this one is pretty sensitive and it loads very well. Wish it had some more length but I love throwing rock crawlers on it.

My favorite rod, by far, for smaller cranks like a wart is actually a jerkbait rod. Any jerkbait rod that can handle 3/8oz (+/-) has a perfect action and will cast a wart/bandit/etc. great. I've been using an iRod 6102 6'10 Medium. I wonder how the Loomis 841 CBR would be for that, seems like it'd be perfect.

I second this, and would look at the 705 as well. I'm sure you would love them. I have the Champion series and the Fury series and they are the best I've ever thrown for DT's and mid size cranks.

Same wavelength here! Only difference is I think I'd probably tend toward the "5" power in Powell for those baits where I fish (so 705, 725, or 755cb, depending on preferred length). To be fair, I'm fishing around a lot of grass so maybe I tend toward a more powerful rod for cranking than others. Also agree with the Phenix suggestion, that's a one to check out. I'd be looking at an X11 or X13, depending on whether you want a 7 footer or 7'6".

Both the Powell and the Phenix are composite sticks that have incredible action for cranks while remaining unbelievably light for being composite. Both are also significantly under budget, coming in at $150 and $200, respectively.
