2020 tracker TXW 175 TE 24v factory trolling wire

    2020 Tracker TXW 175 Tournament Edition 24V

Current Trolling Motor: Minn Kota Maxxum 70 lb Thrust 42 Amp draw with 8 AWG wire

upgrading to MK Ultrex 80 lb Thrust 56A draw.

anyone know how tracker routes the trolling motor cable? Trying to identify the length of the 8 gauge wire and decipher if I need to upgrade to 6 AWG if the 8 AWG is longer than 15 feet from the bow plug/receptacle to the battery

Here is battery wiring gauge chart

    https://www.minnkotamotors.com/sites...selct-gde1.pdf

Look at 70 lb versus 80 lb thrust motor from 15 ft length to 20 ft length

trying to figure out what the factory length run is and where it runs up?

any advice before I have to disassemble everything?

I have an 80lb thrust Fortrex on mine and it works fine with 8 gauge wire.

need to attempt and find where the stock wiring is run for the 8 gauge the boat came with from the factory

I have 20 ft of ancor duplex 6 AWG. You guys think that will be enough 6 AWG length in case I need to run it?

I could always leave the 8 gauge wire there also, and just run the 6 AWG wire also

Spoke with Minn Kota Technical Service today and the representative told me:

They said our maxxum and Ultrex hole mount patterns are the same

And that the Ultrex comes with 5 ft of 10 gauge wire that runs from control head to the foot pedal.

So the 5 ft of 10 gauge will prevent the voltage drop with the 8 gauge factory wire

So the 8 gauge wire in our boats is fine and that just need to upgrade the trolling plug/receptacle. And 60 amp circuit breaker

She also said that you can also use the 6 gauge wire and run it the same. Either will be fine

    That’s what I was told

I don't see why everyone insists on replacing the receptacle. There is nothing wrong with it and you can literally cut the old plug off your Maxxum and just put it on your Ultrex.

What are your thoughts on amperage rating of the plug/receptacle. I am open to picking your brain

Power is power. Especially when the receptacle is already wired to handle large amperages like it does. 6 inches to a foot of differing wire from the overall run is not going to cause a drop in voltage or bottleneck the amperage delivery amounts.

I kept my OE plug and receptacle and do not lose sleep over it's ability to perform and deliver proper voltages and amperages at night because I know it was made to handle and deliver them.

The amperage rating for my plug/receptacle is 40 amp

the Ultrex I am installing is 56 A draw. And requires a 60 amp plug/receptacle. Along with 60 A circuit breaker

so therefore I would need to upgrade based from physical matters.

    ultrex 56 A draw

    maxxum 42 A draw

    as per manufacturers specs

Are you going to be running new 6 gauge wiring? You should for that sort of demand. As for your receptacle, where did you find that information?

    Ah. I see.

You do understand the only thing that makes it spec 40 amps is that it is 8 gauge the entire length of the boat right?

The receptacle (and the plug that plugs into that receptacle) will not hinder ampacity and overall current if you crimp, splice, solder, or butt connect 6 gauge to it. 6 inches or so of cable will not bottleneck the performance of it, that's what I was getting at.

I understand if you do replace it with that being said, however, if it makes you sleep better at night. By all means, replace it if it does.

I have a 24v Fortrex on my 16.5' Lund, had the selling dealer install 6 gauge wire to rear battery compartments and also used a 60 amp circuit breaker, make sure you disconnect TM plug before charging or use a circuit breaker with an on/off switch.
