My Mom passed this morning after suffering with Alzheimer's for 10 years. We are sad, but also very thankful that she is no longer suffering. She hasn't known us for nearly 2 years. It might have been frightening to live in a world where you don't know anyone. My wife and daughter cared for her at home for the last 8 years...the last 5 of which were 24/7 care. They went above and beyond what is expected of family to care for her. This past summer, Mom got to the point that they could no longer care for her and in late July we moved her to a memory care unit. We weren't happy with them, so we moved her to a new facility 2 weeks ago. I wish we would have found this new facility first, as their care was top notch. Mom loved the Lord and I know that she's in a much better place.
Forgot to add...another blessing was that she went quickly. An aid has gotten her up, got her teeth brushed and her hair combed and was going to take her to breakfast. The aid said that she stopped talking mid-sentence and was gone.
