Has anyone ever received a solid explanation of why the livewell plug is on the sidewall vs. the bottom of the livewell? After this many years and complaints, I'm surprised it hasn't changed.
I also am not a fan of the live wells. Here is CA, everything has to be clean and dry and it’s becoming a pain to shop vac out every time I get home.

I like the new plug that screws out and drains but stays in the hole. My Triton had the same shape livewells that were plastic but drained from the bottom. They should drain out the bottom and I'm also suprised they haven't chnged this design over the years. I don't think any states allow water to be in the livewell when you leave the lake.
Is there any room between the hull and bottom of the well to even install a fitting on the bottom?

Sponges work great for removing the last bit of water. My old triton had the drain in the bottom but because of the fitting there would still be a little bit of water in there.

Yea my 2012 721 had the rubber plug, this is double threaded so it can be "sealed" in the hole or "draining" and still in the hole.
My 2021 818 has a basin around the pickups and theres a chrome fixture below the pump out screen with a coarse threaded plastic drain plug... it drains into the bilge, and the basin still retains a good liter of water I'd say. Should keep the barfed up shad and crawdads stewing good till the next trip out. I've previously owned bass cats and they leave water down in there as well, and even put in a pump protector screen system which was kind of a pita to clean and mess with. Always kept a 1 gal shop vac in the garage for boat clean up and to suck out the junk in the livewells.

No it doesn't loosen up and hang against a stop. This unthreads and then threads again to drain. I'll take a picture
1st threads plugged 2nd threads drain threw

I was unscrewing both sets of threads thinking this is a dumb design until I looked it over a little. Actually a better design once I got past user error!! LOL
I will gladly go through the minor hassle of cleaning out the bottom of the livewells than go through the pain in the butt of replacing pumps because all that sediment and trash was able to drain through there.
