    Bass boat up in flames

I'm sorry if this has already been posted.

A local fisherman here had his boat go up in flames this past weekend while fishing a tournament on the Ohio river. This young man lost everything that was on the boat obviously. He is a tremendous fisherman and was right there for AOY for the Westside Club here in SW Ohio, which is one of the most competitive clubs in this region. He said on Facebook that the fire started at the motor.

I'm glad he is ok and hopefully the fisherman around here can help him get back on his feet fishing equipment wise.

Dang that is scary it went up so fast. The Z8 hasn’t been around that long either so it’s not like it’s a real old motor. I wonder would could cause it.

Wife and I were just putting in at Tanners when the FD pulled up to ramp, jumped in front of us to launch rescue boat. Nice that L'burg has the equipment. We saw a lot of smoke from mouth of Tanners, what a loss, but glad they were not hurt.

Yup, good life vests because no fire extinguisher is going to put that out.

I have a 2015 Pro XS and I had a major fuel leak from the water in fuel sensor. Gas was flying everywhere with the engine running. I got really lucky as my on board oil tank was low and the alarm went off for that causing me to see the leaking fuel in the water when I went to pull the cowl. I don't start the engine and inspect for leaking fuel everytime. Most time I never glance back at all, not that I could have seen it from the drivers seat. I can easily see how if it kept leaking like mine did how a major amount of gas could ignite within the cowling and prevent any attempt at extinguishing it yourself.

Glad all made it out, but it looked from the video that the boat was not drifting, spotlock must have stay operational for a little while.

That's one of my biggest concerns when fishing early and late in the year. The water is real cold, and there are a lot fewer boats on the water to come rescue you in this situation.

Fishing with a BBC member a month ago his boat could have went exactly the same way. Sheathing on the + battery cable wore through on the jack plate. Both battery cables glowed red hot in a matter of seconds, Burnt into the gas line before everything was disconnected and under control.

Not to long ago on here was a discussion of the price of insurance premiums. Some thought others paid too much for their coverage. Like all insurance, you can have the bare minimum, or full replacement. If my boat went up like this Z8, It would be replaced for the agreed value the boat and contents was insured for.

Some of the casino money put to good use on the rescue boat. They were training Cincinnati motorcycle cops at Tanners last week.
