    HDS Gen3 Transducer

Have a HDS 7 Gen 3 with a PDRT-WBL shoot thru transducer with external temp sensor, can i get chirp with this transducer, thought I read on here somewhere not to use a shoot thru transducer for chirp as it has to work harder for chirp and needs to be in the water to keep it cool.

An HDS Gen 3 has the capability to do CHIRP sonar with standard Lowrance transducers like you have. You cannot select custom frequencies. You have a choice of Med or High CHIRP. Make sure your Gen 3 is fully updated with the latest software. Go to the Sonar page, hit menu, and select frequency. 83, 200, Med, and High should all be available.

CHIRPing does not generate high amounts of heat but the power associated with true Airmar CHIRP transducers does. There are now Airmar transducers that don’t generate as much heat and can be bilge mounted. That is not something you need to worry about with a PDRT.

You can now get a shoot thru hull version of TM150M/B50m.

Its a true chirp transducer and will walk all over your current 83/200. I run the TM version on my boat with HDS7 gen 3. You just need the correct adapter cable.

I have a lss-1 structure scan with module just looking for something to give me a little better 2 D with chirp, I remover the module and ran the lss-1 transducer straight to the hds gen 3 and the structure pictures was awful, went back in and wired the module back.

Probably cause the Gen 3 is 3 or 4 generations beyond the LSS 1. Enter to keep it going through the module or update to a more modern Sidescan. 3D works great on a Gen 3.

Do you think a lss-2 transducer would be better with the HDS without the module?

Would be tons better, IMO. There are those who say the LSS 1 had the best Downscan of all the structure transducers though, so might be a trade off.
