    18 ft Fisher setup help

I know this is not a bass boat, but I appreciate your advice.

I have a 18 foot aluminum Fisher, SV-18CC with a 1990 3cyl 90hp Mercury. It weighs about 700 lbs, the motor is about 280lbs. I don't have any good props to run with this setup. The old motor was a 75 Mariner and I ran a Powertech ELD3R 17 at 34mph at 5000 rpms. With the 90, I'm at 5900 RPMs doing 35-36

Looking for a prop suggestion. Thanks in advance.

If you like the way the powertech runs, just get another one with 19 pitch. I personally prefer 4 blades on iron hulls, they help them handle better.

I like powertechs just fine on what you're running. I put a lot of the PTR4's with very good results.

    I would go with a 19" pitch Powertech NRS3.

What a ballistic in 19in or a laser 2 in 20 inch be too big for this motor?

Neither one of those is going to run better than what you've got.
The underlying problem with aluminum boats, by nature they really stir up the the water, that turbulence causes props to cavitate and not run the same as a glass hull. Four blades cavitate less than threes, especially when it comes to handling.

Still looking for a PTR4, but picked up a aluminum black max 19 for now. Future spare prop. Haven't run it yet

    I have an '03 Fisher Pro Hawk 180 running a Merc 115 ELPTO ....

I've got 2 Turning Point props....

    a 19° 4 blade Al @ 5800 rpms......39 mph WOT

    a 21° 3 blade SS @ 5,000 rpms.....42 mph WOT

My boat, post my total renovation, is substantially heavier than stock....+/- 300#

One is higher than the recommended WOT rpm while the other is under.....the 21 pitch SS is substantially faster and it's my primary.....I'm having it worked a bit to get the rpm's up to 5250
....the 4 blade is my emergency prop.

Turning Point has a prop selector on it's site that I utilized....there's also a lot of good advice on this site....

Thanks for the advice, maybe I need to get rid of the 90 and get a 115! I ran the Black Max 19 in on Sunday and it was terrible, but I had three big guys in the boat and a lot of gear so today I'm going to run it after work for another test run with just two people and light gear.

A 19 was what was recommended for mine, but, a SS 21 was available in like new condition for a great great price....so I figured what the H, I can always sell it for what I've got in it....and if I get lucky and it's close, I can always have it worked a bit to tidy things up.

Honestly, I was amazed at the difference. I'd installed a small whale tail and was simply hoping the SS 21" would make up any lost speed caused by the whale tail. I think if I unloaded some weight and were running in this cool fall h20 I think she'd hit 45mph. 42mph (GPS) was in 90°+ water, relatively smooth conditions, full tank, 450#'s of humans, and loaded up....

One thing to note, I'm a rookie at this stuff and there are some SERIOUSLY knowledgeable people on this board. Whatever I know came from those guys....

Btw, I had a 75hp Merc ELPT on my boat as that's what came on it. In fact, i still have it as I hate to sell it as it runs like a tank. However, after the renovation it was a 32/33mph (37/38 pre renovation) boat with the 75. It would get on top but simply never felt "light." So I went on the search for a 115/125 and it's made a huge difference.

Not sure what you think you're going to get out of it speed wise, but that's pretty quick for an 18' boat and a 90 horse.

Seeing that many similar boots make it to 42 or 43 miles per hour, I'm hoping to hit 40.

Haven't been able to find a power Tech in a reasonable price range yet, but I did pick up a 13 by 19 Turning Point Hustler. Hope to try it out tomorrow or Sunday
