    Nickajack

I live an hour and a half from Marion County. I have only put in at Marion County and fished the lower end. How is the fishing further up river towards Chattanooga ? Specifically wondering how the grass matts are further up river. Thanks in advance

In the winter months, the SM fishing is pretty good from Chick dam, down to the aquarium in downtown Chattanooga. If you go above the railroad bridge just south of the dam, be extra careful if water is moving as there is a rock pile that is just under the water, and not visible. If you hit it, you will tear a bunch of stuff up. There are a couple of ramps in the area, but be careful if current is moving as it is challenging to get back on the trailer. Also, a life jacket is mandatory from the bridge to the dam. Typically the best grass mats are from the Raccoon Mountain facility, down the river to Nickajack dam. At 60 mph ish, it's a 15-20 minute run from Marion County Park to Raccoon Mountain.
