1999 mercury 200hp efi s/n 0g8866278 just put a rebuilt powerhead on. Do I need to change the reeds.? The one in the engine is the original ones. Would boyesen reeds help the performance.

I would 100% change out the OEM reeds.
I liked Boyesen reeds in my motocross bikes but there are better ones in the outboard world. Don hooked my up with a set of TDR reeds and they were great. Better idle, smoother mid range and not chance of them chipping.

I put Boyesen reeds in a 50 hp mercury several years ago and like the way they performed. About 6 months ago installed them in my Yamaha Vmax work great.

I would recommend (and we sell) TDR Reeds for your engine. I've found them (among a number of others I tried) to provide the best balance of Performance, Longevity, Proper Fitment, and price.

Boyesen, Chris Carson, tdr, can’t go wrong. Have had good service and performance out of all of them.
