    Yamaha Sho cylinder modifications

I have 2 Yamaha Shos setting in my shop. I was talking to an elderly engine builder this past week about sleeving an aluminum block. He has been building race engines for years using aluminum blocks with steel sleeves in them. Question is would it work on the Yamaha Sho.

I believe there are a couple of companies making sleeves for these.

Are you talking about flame spraying new liners on the SHO cylinder walls?

    Interesting.

I would be very interested in seeing how someone installs a pressed in sleeve for a block that was not designed for one.

Southern Marine in Florida has been doing them a few years. Plenty of videos on their FB page.

Excellent. Thank you. I love 'murican' ingenuity. Doing that which others say can't be done.

Looks like the metal between the center cylinder and the upper and lower cylinders is getting pretty thin.

Wondering if the "making oil" issue has gone to near zero with the pressed in liners?

    Got me to thinking.

Is anyone aware of a shop that can strip the cylinders and respray the cylinder liners? Perhaps with a different material being used.

Last I heard, if a cylinder wall gets damaged during warranty or under the YES service contract, the block is condemned and sent off to the smelters.

After finally getting all the parts, got the motor back together and broke in and running strong, wish me luck.

How did you end up rebuilding the cylinders?

Check with US crome or Mellenium tech. They are what we used for dirt bike cylinders. I wonder if they would do them. I will check with a friend who has his pro stock engines coated also. Cj
