    If you want to read something from someone on the other side, Stuka Pilot
    Hans Ulrich Rudel

    Autobiography of World War Two Luftwaffe pilot Hans Ulrich Rudel, the most highly decorated German serviceman of WW2, and the only one to be awarded the Third Reich’s most prestigious medal which was specially created for Rudel by Hitler himself, the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds.Shot down over 24 times, Hans Rudel is credited with destroying over 500 tanks, 2,000 ground targets, the Russian battleship Marat, two cruisers and a destroyer, and was so successful against Russian forces that Joseph Stalin put up a 100,000 rouble ransom on his head. His flying record of over 2,500 combat missions remains unmatched by any pilot since.Until his death in 1982 Hans Rudel remained a loyal supporter of Adolf Hitler, and National Socialism. Hans Rudel remained a complex character, but arguably one of WW2’s most heroic figures. This is a new edition of this classic war epic which includes new maps, photographs, and footnotes, with an introduction by British air ace Group Captain Douglas Bader.

    Another great WWII aviation read: To war in a stringbag

    Charles Lamb was a member of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm from the start of World War Two until he was grievously injured in mid-1945 in the Pacific Theater. In addition an injury to his leg (which is almost lost) that left him bed-ridden for nearly two years, his experiences included:
    Being aboard an aircraft carrier sunk by a U0boat during the first week off the war;
    Flying night missions over German ports to lay mines;
    Flying from a base in the mountains of Greece to forestall the Italian attack on that country;
    Being forced out of Greece and the island of Crete after the Germans entered the fray;
    Participating in an attack on the Italian Navy at Taranto that quite possibly informed the Japanese Pear Harbor plans;
    Being stationed on Malta to attack Axis shipping and deliver agents into occupied North Africa. and
    Being held prisoner by the Vichy French for over a year after a crash in Tunisia during which he and his fellow prisoners are treated by the supposedly neutral Vichy administration in a manner more akin to a Japanese POW camp.

    At first the book about Mr rudel sounded interesting until the part about his love of Hitler who was responsible for the death of what, like 6 million Jews and untold lives both axis and allied for his perverse few on the world. Don't know why anyone would need to read about a guy that was all about killing folks to support Hitler and being a nazi. But that's just me.

    History offers lessons, you can ignore them if you want. Reading about someone does not mean you have to admire them.
