Still problems with no source on a HDS 8 gen 2

Ok I have a question about my hds 8 gen 2 I still don’t have side scan I have not tried a new Ethernet cable as I cannot find one local. But I did listen to the transducer with a stethoscope and it is faintly ticking. Not as loud as the 2d transducer I still have power light on the module and the si di transducer light is flashing too. And any port that I try the grey / yellow Ethernet cord too will flash as long as the graph is on or it’s plugged into it

Can the cord still be bad. I have tested it on each pin with a continuity tester and it seemed ok I’m kinda lost here
I have updated it to the 4.0 from the 2.0 and it didn’t work on either software. I do have the SI/DI selected on the graph too many times I have reset everything. I don’t know what else to try unless the cable is just bad

No source on a Gen 2 non-Touch can mean only two things, no/bad module or bad Ethernet cable. I suppose it might be possible to select the wrong source. On the Structure page menu, the Source should be StructureScan HD. Or just StructureScan. Depends on what module you have.

I have the HD module but there is no place to highlight to check mark that. Just side scan on the advanced area. I check marked the side scan that is what I was told

We are not trying to turn StructureScan on. If you have the page icon it’s already on. Hit Pages, select the Structure icon. Once the page opens, hit menu, then hit source and be sure the module is selected. Remember this is a long shot. Most likely it’s the module or the cable.

Can you take a photo of where you are and what you are seeing? This is normally all automatic. Better yet, just do a hard reset on n the unit. Then go to the Structure page again and see if it still says No Source.

I have done that several times now. Even after updating to the 4.0 from the 2.0 and it didn’t work on that software either. How do I post a pic here

Until you try a new cable, I am just spinning my wheels here as that is the most likely culprit with a No Source message on the Structure page.

Gotta be either a setting, a fouled wiring connection, or the SS box itself.

Surely you know someone else who uses Lowrance units who can lend you an ethernet cable to try; or you can find one at a Bass Pro Shops or Cabelas, or on the internet?

I already got another cable. It still does the same thing. Still says no source. And all lights are working on the sshd box have no idea what’s going on or if I did something wrong
when I ran the power to the box I ran both the red and yellow to a switch that runs directly to the battery too. Unless that’s wrong. I did try the yellow wire that comes from the HDS 8 gen 2 but that didn’t power it up

I believe you can bypass the structure scan box on a Gen 2 unit and plug the structure scan transducer straight into the unit. That will, at least, remove 1 unknown from the troubleshooting equation. If I am wrong about the bypassing, I'm sure someone will chime in.
