Replacing WVM 2A carbs with WH-22 carbs

I have a mix match motor that is either a 89 Mercury 135 or a 150. The motor starts and runs perfect to about 4800 rpms then starts dropping. Rpms then will run up to about 5000 rpm for a little while. Wanted to rebuild carbs on motor that are WMV 2A but have been told those did not even come on that motor. Long story short, I have a clean set of WH-22’s off my old 200 Mercury. Can I swap these?

They won't be jetted correctly for the 135/150 engine.

Is there a guide for jetting the WH carbs for the motor. Or is it the old fashion way of checking plugs etc…

    The motor id isC149576

Bought as a 200. Was told it was a 135 and a 150 by someone else. Don’t see the WVM carbs any where for a 135 or 150. Wanted to try the wh carbs because I know that set is good.

If you click on the link in Don’s signature for ordering parts and look up your serial number 0C149576, it comes up a 135hp. It list three different carbs, WH-35,38, and 40. Not sure which ones were original, also list the jets used.

That’s where the confusion starts. I don’t have any of those on my motor. And the set on the motor never came on the motor nor did the wvm.

Where did the serial number come from? Transom bracket or Welch plug on motor? If there is a Welch plug with serial number on motor block that is the one I would use. Not uncommon for motors to become pieced together with different components. You can look what original jets came with the original block and try those in your motor, but will have to figure out if it’s running lean or fat.

0C149576 was indeed a 135 Mariner when it was manufactured 11/10/1988.
