I've been wanting to modify the port rod locker, but had to come up with my plan. I always felt like I was bending my rods more than I liked when I put them into the lower tubes on the factory setup. These lockers have large volume, which is a great thing to me. I just wanted to tweak mine a bit.
I also didn't want to drill any new holes into the locker walls or floor if I didn't have to.
Located the tubes and handle supports that I wanted and got to work. I mounted to the new handle supports to the existing handle support, so I could make use of both. Located 2 rod tube assemblies, and cut 'em down to 6 tubes each. They are about 3.5"H x 12.75"W and the tubes needed to be cut down to 43".
Left the bottom open, so I can still use that space and there's still close to 5" clearance from the carpet to bottom of the tube holder. Also, the factory carpet goes almost all the way to the front of the boat!
I can comfortably store 16-17 rods now. I don't use anything longer than 7'-3", but the top rack will hold a 7'-6" rod. If anyone is thinking about tweaking their setup, it's not a bad job at all. Just waiting for some bungee cord to arrive to finish the setup.
