    What size hairs?

    I've tried a few.
If throwing 1/8 or 3/32 I'd say the Shimano zodias 7'6 light, or the Phenix feather 7'7 light.

The steez ags 76mml, or the tatula elite 7'6 mml are good for heavier hairs, but I dont care for them for 1/8 oz and under.

I would say 1/8oz and lighter.

I don’t have any experience with rods in that price range for the technique. I do know the 901 Loomis is spot on right for that weight and under.

    Happy shopping sir.

I've spent thousands trying out rods for 3/32 hair jigs the last 10 years, and this is still my favorite!

The Daiwa Tatula Feider Fly 7’6” is a good option

I use both a 901 NRX and a 7’6 Zodias. There’s honestly not that much difference between the two.

You might also want to check out the new St Croix Victory 7'10 rod. I don't see it in stock anywhere, but it might be a player in the under $200 category. If you need something right now, then I'd definitely get the Zodias. It has a nice moderate action that loads up on the cast just like the 901.

I did get a private message inviting me to test that rod out. If I get up to Park Falls I'll definitely check it out. Might have to make a trip.

Phenix Feather 7'7" L or Recon Elite 7'6" L. The 7'6" ML Croix Mojo will work too but I prefer the Phenix. All under $200

I have the Phenix Feather 7’7” light. While overall I do like the rod the guides are fairly small and the first guide is quite a ways from the reel seat. Further than any other rod I own. I’m using and older Daiwa 3000 series reel (not the 3000LT style) so it has a larger diameter spool. I come away feeling that my casting distance is not what it should be. I’m using #8 Power Pro main line. I’m thinking about trying a 3000LT reel and see if my casting distance increases. With all of that said I’m not sure I’d recommend that rod

I'm leaning towards the giving the Zodias a try and paring it with a 2500 or 3000 Vanford. I'm just wondering if I the light with the moderate fast action or medium light with the fast action is best. This will basically be a hair jig rod. 1/8oz and lighter. I'm thinking the light with moderate fast action...

Can’t speak for the Zodius, but can speak for the Diawa Kage (model KAG791LFS). I bought a second after using the first for a while. It’s in that $200 price range and very good quality build, with good length (7’ 9”) and
action for jigs that light. We’ve been on a torrid hairjig bite here in MN and caught 330 of them in 3 days last weekend - nearly all on 3/32 hairjigs and that
Kage rod paired with a Vanford 2500 and 6lb Nanofil to 6lb flouro leader.

That's probably a fair statement but I built mine off of a Feather blank not the factory rod so I had my own guide spacing. Since I posted that the Phenix broke (my fault) and the blanks I've been using are either a NFC SJ732 or a DS731.
