    Amazon Props

Can anyone provide info on these props? I came across a company called Flish Props on Amazon after searching for a SS compatible to a Mercury Vengeance. Looks to be same part no. as Mercury and half the price.......

I have a Mercury 40 4stroke tiller on a 1754 Triton. Currently has a 13p aluminum prop, holeshot is a dog top end is fine(31 gps). I would like to go to a SS to help the holeshot.

I'm not sure SS will help you any... Maybe a larger diameter, Lower pitch would help.

Aluminum... Check out the Mercury Spitfire 4 blade. I think you need more blade area.

what size would you recommend that wouldn’t sacrifice top end speed? As I mentioned, it currently has a 13p x 10.5”

It depends on your RPMs now. you want to be able to reach the upper end of RPM range for your motor.

I put a cheap digital tach on the motor recently but I'm not sure how accurate it is.....currently says I'm at 57-5800 rpm WOT, but occasionally it jumps to 6300-6500rpm for no reason.

Well, nobody can help you pick a pitch without knowing accurate data

If you want to stay cheap, Aluminum Spitfire is the way to go, but you may lose some top end by like a mile or two per hour.

If you want expensive and the integration of more cup in the propeller to allow for even less slip on the water then even the Spitfire, then Trophy Sport is the way to go for you. You may still lose a hair of top end, or you may even gain some. It just depends on the hull and the overall setup. 13 pitch aluminum on those Bigfoot CT 40 HP engines usually make about 57-5800 RPM FYI, so your tach is feeding you misinformation every so often, but as a whole it's pretty spot on.

I would visit this link so you can plug in some numbers and get a better reference point, but remember, it's just a reference. It won't be precise (despite my finding of it being SPOT ON under most circumstances).

So according to Mercury VesselView Mobile, the best I could get was 5750-5800rpm at WOT and 31.1mph….is there anyway to squeeze 35mph out of this motor?

You would need about 10 more HP for that and there is no conversion for the 40's available, unless you are a Command Thrust/ Bigfoot 995cc 4 cylinder version 40 HP.

What year is your motor and how many cylinders is it? 3 or 4 cyl?

I reccomend Power Tech props, quite a bit cheaper than Mercury props and just as good or better. Call them directly and tell them your setup, they will help you pick the right prop.

That's as fast as you are going to go then. Ahh, too bad it was not the 40 HP 4 cyl version, I could had picked you up an extra 20 ponies.

You MAY be able to pull 32 out of it. That's somewhat pushing it though and you are running at around the max speeds that the engine will ever be capable of making on 16.5-17 foot tin hulls. Post 12 will apply in this instance for propellers, at least my advice. A hydrofoil MAY help with speed, it does on Trackers, but on a Triton is anyone's guess.

I just ran my numbers for the Mercury prop selector and the recommended prop(s) for my application are 10.6x12 or 10.3x12 spitfire ….estimated speed 35.7mph…..that would be great if it’s true

Those numbers assume a 0% slip from the prop which in every single situation with a standard non jet outboard will absolutely ever see. Switching to a 4 blade would keep those numbers down between 5-8%. Go stainless and it will keep those numbers even lower than a Spitfire or similar 4 blade, but as I said the most you will ever see on that outboard is going to be around 31-32. You MAY be able to squeeze 33 out of it, but you may spend a lot of money doing so in the process.
