Looks like a yellow garden spider, if it is then they are good to have around.

Harvest is in full swing and they are working their way indoors here. We have a lofted ceiling in our living room and wife spotted one right up at the peak. Took her a tall ladder and vaccum extension to get him. Our back yard butts up to a cornfield they haven't taken out yet can only imagine the critters that work there way out of there once he finally goes through.

They are starting to show up in numbers here now. Spraying them with soapy water kills them, and peppermint oil on a cotton ball will keep them away if you know where they are coming in.

They usually only show up here in the spring. Hate those things. Even if you pick one up with a paper towel, they still put out the stink that you can’t wash away from your fingers.

It’s a joro spider. A new invasive species from China.

Trichonephila clavata, also known as the Jorō spider, is a member of the golden orb-web spider genus. The spider can be found throughout Japan, in Korea, Taiwan, China, and more recently, northeast Georgia in North America.
