    Tube bait spinning rod

Wondering what type of action I should have tossing tube baits open hook with traditional tapered head in the 1/8 to 1/4 oz size? MED or ML and fast or extra fast tip?

For 1/4-3/8 a dobyns dx743sf. Can be used for 1/8 also but is a little heavy. dx742 would work well.

Med/Ex-Fast is my preference. Specifically a Loomis 892s up to a 1/4 tube head.

I've used all sorts of actions for tubes from light up to med/ hvy. I would start with med/ light and work from there. I would put more priority into a comfortable handle and feel first then worry about the action. I just ordered 40 bags of tubes on the swap board I don't even need.

I’ve used a Medium Light and Medium, both do the job well. If I’m going with a medium light, then a longer rod feels better suited for the tube. My 7’6 Medium Light Cronos was just about perfect, Daiwa did a great job with that rod. My current tube rod is a Medium/Fast Orochi XX 7’4 Enforcer. Great for long casts, go feel and very responsive. If you’re going Texas rig, the medium is better suited, exposed hook and lighter weight then medium light.

Agree with above. I use a 7‘2“ Fenwick world-class medium fast spinning rod. Hi can fish tubes up to a 1/2 ounce on this set up.

Also depends on the size of fish you expect to catch. With the St Cair smallies at 5-7lbs I like a little heavier rod

It depends what size of tube you are using too.

If you are throwing short tubes (2-3/4"-3") go medium light for sure. If throwing 3.5"-4.5" go medium. If you are rigging stupid or texas style, the absolute minimum would be a medium.

I would recommend a fast action, but this this and other bottom techniques an extra fast is nice too. I would shop for best rod at price range first though.

I use a 7'6" ML/M Tatula Elite for my open hook tube fishing, and the 7'4" Levante Enforcer for my stupid tube fishing.
