    Damm deer!

    8 Deer.jpg

I have a 4' light duty fence around my raised beds to keep out the vermin and it generally does the job. But we were away for the weekend and took the dog with us so the herd got a little more brave in our absence. Those 20# of tomatoes we were going to use for pasta sauce? Gone. Yesterday I went to the grocery for onions and garlic and then went out to pick the tomatoes. Fence was partially knocked down and trampled. I found like 3 whole tomatoes that they left underneath the cages.

Fatten them deer up and Harvest them, you can season them with the onions and garlic you bought for the salsa. Hahahaha, they are always nice to have around and enjoy until they eat your salsa crop of tomatoes.

Double fence it. Put your 1st set around the perimeter and then another fence 4 feet outside of the original. They get confused and dont think they can jump it and will stay out

You should be ashamed, you had more than you eat and they were starving........they needed the food, and you were just going to store it........... The right thing to do is share your wealth........

You can build an electric fence that will keep deer out. I have to do it every year on my dove fields because they eat the head of the flower. They will wipe out a 2 acre sunflower field with ease.
Put one fence up around the perimeter and then another about 18-24" either inside or outside of that fence. The inner fence will have a higher line than than the outer by about 2 feet. The outer fence will need to have a low line.

If the line heights from the around are A being lowest and D being highest...Outer fence will have line A and C...Inner fence will have B and D. As I understand it, the way a deer sees it causes depth perception issues and they wont try to jump over. It works great on our food plots.

Low cost solution that works to keep the deer away. Get hair from a barbershop/salon and put it in mesh onion bags or nylon stockings, etc. and hang the bags from posts around your garden. Change or add more hair every couple weeks, or less if it has rained a lot AND if you or a neighbor has just mowed the grass. (The smell of fresh cut grass is like a dinner bell to them.) I got "raided" numerous times over the years before I used the hair bags but not since. Good luck!

I had 20 plants and got about 10 tomatoes. The deer got the rest and ate the plants.

You can get permission to take out nuisance deer. Feed the older ones and take out the small and young. Their the best tasting.
