    96 xr6 150 2.5

Hello, i have a mercury 96 xr6 150 that cant seem to figure out. Motor has new water pump kit. Thermostats that are newer and checked. Popet valve re sealed and new diaphragm.
Motor pumps water good. Does have quite a bit coming out exhaust ports aswell as pee hole. After running 10 mins at about 45 overheat alarm goes off. Turn it off and run 5 to 10 mins later samething alarm goes off still pumping good. Any ideas? Also did a compression test 135 on all 6 cylinders.

Did you use all 3 gaskets in the kit when you rebuilt the water pump? Very important.

I think it would be worth pulling the pump again and verifying that the correct gaskets were used in all (3) locations, AND that none of them are torn/damaged. VERY common to see the one between the plate and the water pump base damaged, and sucking air between two passages.

Definitely true. I put a wp guage and ran at idle. Gave it lil rpm went to 3 or 4. Also put a new temp sensor. Once warmed up it opened and peed good. Just still has water thrue exhaust once warm.. Alarm never went off witch it didn't until i got into it running on lake.

Also needs to "feel" good. That poppet needs to slide in and out of the grommet as if it were buttered (zero drag).
