Mariner Mag 3 OD286369 Water pump

Hey guys first time poster long time lurker..

Serial #OD286369

I am having a heck of time getting the lower unit back on the motor after replacing the water pump. The shaft seems to be getting blocked up in the motor around the splines on the block.

Here's a couple pictures it kinda hard to see. It looks like what ever is blocking me from getting the lower unit back on the motor is sometihing that has left a mark on the shaft also.

drive shaft spline seal fell out common problem ,do a search on here for several remedies or pull power head
