    Fish Finder Security

I believe if the thief wants your stuff, he's going to get it. The idea is the make it an effort and slow them down, so maybe they will go to someone else's boat. I use torx security screws over a cone washer over a stainless steel washer. The heads of the screws did not quite fit into the cone washers. I put the screw into the chuck of my drill and ran it over a metal file until it fit. Didn't take much. Remember to buy the bit, I already had one. For less than $30 I'm semi-secure and have a bunch left over.

these were installed over a 1 1/4 inch ss washer. For my Lowrance HDS 9 live, the 20 mm screw worked.

I put my graphs on when I'm prepping the boat to launch in the parking lot and remove them when prepping to go home. Someone will have to come in my house to get my graphs or anything else for that matter and I heard that the owner is an azzhole!!

I also remove my graphs at the ramp every time I take the boat out of the water. Takes less than 5 min and they go in a hard shell case. If they want the graphs they’ll have to take them off when I’m at/in my boat or break into my house to get them. I also take everything out of my boat every time I get back from fishing. I only put in what I want/need for the day.

side note: we live in an extremely safe area. There’s times I forgot stuff on the deck of my boat overnight and I never worry about it. I know people who leave their keys in their truck/car because there’s no threat of theft around here.

I use the same on my units for the last 4 or 5 years , won't stop them if they want it but will slow them down enough.. If a thief wants something they will get it no matter what.

A simple baby monitor would allow you to hear the saw, call 911 then get out there to stop the theft.

    those locks are WORTHLESS

...if I were stealing your stuff, I'd just cut wires/pull gimbal/unit from dash.

    <10 secs

---and now your console is all tore up

I *might* be inclined to loosen knobs if there were no locks, thus saving the destruction of dash/console.

    just my thoughts

On most new boats including mine that is over kill. All you need is a hex driver to unscrew a few screws and disconnect the wires and you're off with the unit(s) as well as the mounts.

Insurance is the best option, IMO, and just not worry about it.

I have Lowrance Carbons and Active Target. I live on a busy corner and leave them on the boat 24/7. No security screws, just a driveway light and full coverage insurance. If they get stolen, I’ll get Humminbirds and 360. Win win.
