I've got two bird units an 8 mdi on the bow and 9 msi on console both Gen 4. My console unit I find I have to reset it every trip. Once I get everything set up the sonar option on the menu screen is not there. I've got the unit updated and posted a picture. When I have to reset it, the sonar is off and the only screen options that will work are just the map options.
Did you Restore Defaults after the software update was completed?

Dirty power can really mess with Helix units. Even if you have to run some wires across the deck straight to the battery, it might be worth the troubleshooting effort.

There is a new software update that just came out 2 days ago that lists the bugs that it will fix. I was having to do a restore defaults to get my depthfinder to work, and supposedly the latest software update will fix this.
