    98' Nitro 896 Savage

Who has owned one or currently owns one? Looking at one here locally that's in really good shape. What are things to check? Opinions?

Posted in the Nitro forum also.

Never owned one but I heard the hole shot on them is less than desirable.

Friend of mine owned one for years never had an issue with the boat and really liked it. His trailer crossover rusted into and he had to get it welded back. Something about the design wouldn’t let all the water drain from it after submerged.

A friend of mine had one years back. We fished out of it a lot. The only gripe I remember him having about it was the back deck area was noisy. He didnt weigh more then 150 and when he walked across the storage lids they'd make creaking noises and flex.

I had a ‘97 with a 150 EFI w/ a Para-Lift jackplate. Great holeshot and ran high 60’s. At 19’6”, great all around boat for smaller lakes, as well as big water. If it all checked out well and is in good shape, you can’t go wrong for the right price.

    Good luck!

Check the transom. Seem a lot of 90s 2000s nitros with rotten transom. Including one I owned in 05

Thanks! This one has a 200 efi on it, so it should run pretty decent.

Had an 884 with 150efi. Liked the boat. Hole shot was lousy.

I have had a 884 Savage for about 15 years...love the boat but yeah the hole shot isn't the best with a 150 efi.

I had a 896 and like mentioned it’s slow out of hole but would run 70, great fishing platform and good storage. It had the 200 efi and was ahead of its times

I sold my 99 896 w 200 efi last year after 20 years. No hull shot issues and it ran 72 on gps. It took rough water very well. I absolutely loved that boat. Only reason I sold it was I got a deal on a boat I could not pass on.
    you will not be sorry

Don't mean to hijack but this thread got me to thinking that back in the day when I was younger with a family and money was tight I dreamed of owning a Nitro Savage 896. It was my dream boat. Still love the looks of them.

It was one of the first boats that I saw that I really liked also. Always liked this color scheme on them to.
