Asking for a friend, don't know the model number but its a 92 merc 3 cyl carbed engine. We were trying props the other day and the tach was reading much higher than the engine sounded, was turning a 22 pitch prop 6500 rpms. We noticed at idle in neutral the rpms would go up to 1800 then back to 1000 but the engine didn't change. My question is what could cause this?
