    Waterproofing electrical in bilge

    Guys,

I'm having trouble finding adhesive-backed heat shrink locally at my auto parts stores. Any other good ideas for waterproofing wiring in the bilge? I'm rewiring my bilge and livewell pumps to get rid of some corrosion and old shadetree electrical splices. I'd like something better than electrical tape.

Liquid electrical tape followed by heat shrink.

Like he said. If I splice wires anywhere on a boat or trailer, I put the heat shrink over the wire, splice it, then paint the splice wiring with Liquid Electric Tape, then heat the shrink which forces some L E T out and seals the splice. It makes one tough connection.

eBay! You can find whatever size adhesive heat shrink you want in whatever color you want. I ordered a bunch in a 3:1 shrink ratio not long ago, I think it was $2 a foot or something.

If you can't wait the couple days, the liquid electrical tape inside heat shrink will definitely work.

I get the connector kits off Amazon that have the heat shrink right on the connector. Just search marine grade wire connectors. Kit is like $25 has rings, blades and butt connectors. 10-22g

I use these, and their heat shrink racheting crimper. These are thick, great heat shrink, and have waterproof adhesive inside.

Harbor Freight sells a kit. If ordering online, you have so many choices.

I used heat shrink with solder in them.....then heat shrink again with a longer piece.....doubled it on the major connections.....then wrapped several wires in loom.....major connections were hand soldered....1 year and 25 circuits....so far, so good

Having now been through the DIY rewiring of an entire boat, twice, there is one other thing I learned, the hard way.....every +/- 3' label the wire.... it's a PITA. However, when you're chasing a short, man, it's worth it....

This is the adhesive lined shrink tube I use. 3/8" 3:1. Comes in 1ft pieces, just cut to desired length.

I tried other Amazon butt connectors and they were to thin for my Anchor ratchet crimpers so I stopped buying cheap connectors and stick with Anchor brand.

If you are not a fan of Amazon try www.genuinedealz.com they have a lot of electrical stuff along with custom battery cables, etc.
