Got some practice in last night after my first class Tuesday. Anyone have some critical feedback they can provide.

I'm not sure what kind of critique you're looking for but I'll chime in. Exposure looks accurate. It appears you used the on-camera flash. You'll immediately improve images with flash by either bouncing the on-camera flash, or by using off-camera flash. It'll soften the light and give your subject some dimension as opposed to flat lighting (when the light source comes directly from the camera position). Two things about your composition, 1. Learn and use the "rule of thirds" when composing as opposed to framing the subject dead center as you've done here. 2. Be aware of the background. What you have here is the staircase rail and post intersecting with the cats head. Always look at the position of what's behind your subject and avoid "impaling" any part of the subjects body.
Finally, It looks like this is a straight from camera (sooc) image with no post processing? One bit of reality in digital photography is that every image needs some editing. Basic adjustments like curves and levels in Photoshop will make a tremendous difference and give your images some "pop". Digital images are somewhat soft and flat before post processing.
You're off to a good start!

Thanks for the feedback, kept it at a broad question to get any feedback I can. The more honest feedback I can get will help in the learning process.
