It's starting to feel about right for the bow season opener in a couple weeks. By "right" I mean to say it's low-70s at 5:30 am vs. low-80s I've grown used to. I'm also starting to see more deer on my way in to the office, and by "more" I mean to say that this morning I saw three as opposed to the two that I've seen on the regular all summer...and almost hit the third one I saw too.

Bow season opened today in MO. I used to be out there first thing trying to fill tags but I’m not that mad at them anymore. I’ll wait till the prerut starts kicking in and start getting serious. There are plenty of fish to be caught between now and then.

Me too Mark! I say it every fall. I can't wait until they all go sit in a tree and get off the lake!

I will do my part and stay off the lakes. Deer season takes priority. Besides, my freezer has plenty of fish.

Here in Ca. deer hunters are going to have to go elsewhere, as there are no more forest to speak of, fires destroyed every thing. Thank to PGE and some arsonist.

Back in the day I could not hardly wait for opening day of season just to start filling tags and the freezer. I had my bow all dialed in and was ready to sling arrows, then it was muzzle load season, then to modern gun season, then there was the late muzzle load season then nearly 2 months of final bow season. Not for me anymore, about 3 weekends of modern gun season and I have all the deer meat I need for a year. I Always have tags left over at the end of the season. I like fall and winter crappie fishing more now than deer hunting. I still deer hunt, don't get me wrong, but not nearly as serious about it as I was 20 years ago. I am a member of a deer lease and the deer are so plentiful all you have to do is pick which one you want to clean, shoot it and then get to work.

Man that sounds awesome. Have spent my whole life hunting and fishing but there is nothing I enjoy more than hunting birds. Lots of great memories with my Dad on bird field. Miss you Dad !!

Yep, once you lose the fever you never hardly think about it anymore. Still have a few things left from those days though.
