    Steering component question

My motor can be pushed back and forth about 1/2".

From what I've read on the forum I believe that to be too much?

The give appears to be in the bushing on the cylinder. See Red Arrow
    Should the bushing be loose?

The rightside has something different that is rigid with no play.

In the 2nd picture...loosen the ALLEN screw and that will allow you to loosen/rotate the nut counter clock wise ........which will tighten the play.Once you have it tight tighten the Allen screw.

Just to be sure I understand.

Loosen #1 then Loosen/counter clockwise #2 to take up play and then tighten #1 ----- Right?
    Thanks

    No.
Loosen the Allen head bolt on 1. Then go to the steering wheel turn the wheel watch piece 1 to see if the gap opens up. Once it move then you turn piece 1 till the gap is closed up. Then move the wheel again to see if slop is gone if so tighten Allen bolt up.

This is a great question. That little piece was loose one on my boat. I tightened it but honestly didn’t really think about where or how to go about this. I’m going to take another look at it. What’s the purpose of the part (with the Allen screw)?

It takes up the slack in that bar and the set screw locks the setting in place.
