    Needing some direction on PROP.

Hi fellas. I know we’ve talked about this and based on all the help from you and your experience, I specifically asked my dealer to request a 23 pitch fury 3 blade for my new 2022 Nitro Z19 w/ 200 merc pro XS four stroke.
Well- dealer just sent me photos of my boat that just arrived. It’s beautiful BTW.
Anyway- I see some numbers stamped near LU——- 13x24 and what looks to be 1.85 below that.
I’m assuming that’s a 24p prop and the new lower unit gear case that Mercury is putting on their motors?

My question for you guys is- given the new gear case, should I try the 24p prop? Or, since I’m At almost 4000 feet elevation, should I demand they get me the 23 pitch like I originally requested?
I honestly don’t know what to do. I truly appreciate all your input. It helps me make the best decisions.
I’m open to try the 24p but am worried I won’t get the proper rpms at my elevation? Thanks again for your help.

I am a tad above 2000 feet fishing Roosevelt Lake here in AZ, and with a 23P Fury on my 2021 Z20 Pro and I have yet to get her spin over 5500 RPMs. I do hit 67 in our heat and elevation but only getting 5500 with the altitude and heat is concerning a bit.

Mike, who gives his wisdom down in the Merc 4 Stroke section mentioned he ran a 19P props on his 2 strokes back in the day when he resided in the Denver area to get optimal performance at that altitude.

I thought a 22P may do the trick after checking everything else, but from the sounds of the adverse affects from altitude and heat here in AZ, I may have to test a 20/21P prop to see if I get RPMs up in the hotter months.

The 13 x24 is nothing to do with the prop. Same with the 1.85/1 gear ratio only the lower unit. The prop can easily be a 23

13 splines in the vertical power shaft or 24 splines on the drive shaft and or teeth on the gears. I'm not positive. But someone in the merc forum will know

Thank you fishysam. I guess I made a poor assumption when seeing those numbers. I’ll know for sure on Thursday.

What speed and RPM are you getting? I’d guess you to be close to sea level.?

My '21 Z19 came with a 23P Fury. Runs right around 5800 rpm @65 MPH seal level.

Not sure of my sea level. The best speed i have seen is 66.4 MPH on my GPS with some chop on the water. My boat was loaded with gear. I have a total of 4 batteries all lead and a half tank of full. When I run I will get a crazy amount of chime walk that I can not drive through. Hope that helps and feel free to message me for any info. Happy to help in anyway I can.

So these new motors and lower units specifically, they are longer, this length means motors can possibly be higher than back in the 2 stroke days. Maybe by as muck as 0.5". May want to try that to bring up the rpms.

Steinybass- you are about 2200 above sea level in Somerset. I’m already thing I may have to drop prop pitch to get 6000 RPM? Wonder what that will do to my hole shot and top speed? I’ll run a 23P first and see where I land.

Dropping pitch to get peak rpms will only make holeshot and mid range better.

Merc usually stamps the props size on the prop itself. For example my tempest has the part number stamped on the barrel followed by a 24P for a 24 pitch.

I have a 2021 Z19, 200 ProXS 4 Stroke w/ 23p Fury. PTP is 3.5 inches. At about 100 ft above sea level I have seen 68 in cool weather, just me in the boat and 1/2 tank of gas. That was about 5700 rpm. More typical is 63-65 in the 5450 range. Up at Lake Almanor at 4500 feet, I noticed a difference in hole shot for sure, I did not run flat out, still cruised easily at 55. It seems like it could use more bow lift. I don't run it flat out very often. More often I cruise 50-55. In the 40-45 mph range it is very sensitive to trim position, just a little bit too much and it wants to porpoise. A slight drop in trim or increase in throttle and it will go away.

Update!!- Got my new boat ant took it out for break in.
    2 of us 215# and 130#
    1/2 tank fuel
    no gear
PTP was set at 5.5” from factory
    23P fury 3 blade
    1.85 lower unit

At full throttle I got to 5480 RPMs per vessel view
    64 mph. Per vessel view
    3800’ elevation
if I tried to trim it anymore it started chime walking.

today I raised the PTP to 3.5” in hopes of more RPMs ?? Will run it Thursday
also loaded my fishing gear. You could probably say I have a lot of gear. Lol
absolutely love my custom color scheme and how the boat handles!!

You will have to learn to drive any speed over say 66mph it's going to chine walk, there will be many more rpms to have when you start getting the hull aired out. If you know anyone who has a bass boat they could jump in your boat and help you get started on high performance driving.

if you don't want to learn how to drive faster a 4 blade prop in a 22p would really improve acceleration/handling and probably top out at say 66 but you may not get to 100% throttle maybe just 95%...

Yeah. I definitely need some wheel time to learn where it’s best trimmed and learning to drive at the high speeds. This is one learning curve I love!

Congrats on the new boat! I still remember the excitement the first time I started mine (giant erection) here are some things I found out...
Boat seems fairly sensitive to weight distribution, I try to keep heavier stuff in rear compartments and since I run solo much of the time, I do my best to put heavy stuff in the port storage box. I have also found that when Im solo, keeping the livewells full definitely improves the ride and helps with chine walk. If I have a passenger, chine walk isnt as much of an issue, but it still happens starting at around 64MPH. Some guys report getting a little more speed, but as far as Im concerned this is a 65MPH boat. Be prepared and learn to deal with chine walk as it is a fact of life with this boat.

Enjoy the new ride and again, congrats!
