    Ditches??

Are these ditches or logs laying on the bottom? It's in the Tennessee river.

I would say logs but hard to tell from the picture. Typically a log will show a harder return on the one side followed by a shadow where a ditch won’t. Drive over it with 2D and there’s no question

You really need a larger picture of just the screen or, better yet, screen capture that we could zoom in on to tell for sure. I don't see the hard return of the log that I would expect so I'm thinking that it is a depression of some sort... Anchor drag line, ditch, or etc.

Thanks guys. I'll get a screen shot next time out. I also expected a log to show a bright hard return with an accompanying shadow with maybe some limbs showing.

Yeah, especially since you said you were on the Tennessee River so the bottom composition was most likely mud. The hard return of a tree would have stood out against that mud bottom... If that is what the bottom is in that area.

The pallet color is ONE color. Everything recorded is in that color at some level. ANYTHING black on the display is a shadow of something that is blocking the sonar from recording in that color since sonar cannot "see" around or through objects. SOOOO the black areas are either shadows of something above the bottom or shadow caused by a drop off like you would see on the transducer side of a creek channel.

You can't see the smallest of these bass since it is on the edge of the bottom color blended in, but you can see both of their shadows (black) on the bottom.
