    Mercury lower unit paint??

My factory paint on my 2011 optimax wore off pretty bad . I had it redone at a body shop and it fell off too in less than a year . Would implement paint be a better option? Not wanting to do it again! Thanks

Nope, you need a zinc primer over the bare skeg for best adhesion and use the merc paint with the top coat.. I always just removed the paint and waxed the skeg. Never had to mess with it after that.

Blast to bare skeg. Etech primer then a 2k primer then base/clear. We use a "high impact clear". Not cheap but right way to do it.

I've never understood the OEMs painting the lower units. For most of us, we are going to knock some of that paint off sooner or later and then spend lots of time/$ trying to keep it up. The bare sporty a couple boats ago was the easiest to maintain.
