    99 Johnson 225 HO exhaust

    Good morning

I purchased my boat with a 99 225 HO in July. The previous owner (2nd owner) told me the original owner ported the exhaust through the mid section because it supposedly made more HP.
The motor sounds like a Harley, and I'm curious if I should keep it as is, or plug it somehow.
I'm also concerned about possibly losing low end power, as it's a dog getting my 21'r out of the hole.
Anyone have any experience with this?

    Thanks

I don't think porting the mid section would do anything other than make it "sound like a Harley". Opening up the exhaust ports in the engine will increase but since it's already the "HO" that's already done during production.

Have to be careful drilling exhaust. If not done correctly, can cause engine issues/damage(carb re-tting may be required as reducing backpressure changes air metering.) Most people do it because it makes it sound faster.....its not.

I would plug it. Maybe find out if original owner did anything else along with the hole drilled in the exhaust. Good to know history(honest history)

previous owner had it since 2003, I doubt he would have any of that info.

I do want to plug it, just not sure on how to go about it.

    Thanks guys

I understand the process, for $8.00 give it a try you can also look for other options that was just a quick search. Sign on to Scream and Fly boards and ask those guys, they do it all the time.
