    Was I overcharged?

I had my 200 hour service on my 17 SHO 250 and the total cost was $879!!The parts used were an Oil filter, Impeller, 6 plugs, fuel filter, 7 quarts of oil, fuel water separator filter, and gear oil. Labor 617.00!! This seems high to me but I'm not sure. Opinions?

Thats way too high. A reputable shop should be able to do all of that work in 2-3 hours max so thats 200.00 an hour for labor. I’d be furious and would want an explanation. The toughest part of that job is changing the impeller, but again if it’s a reputable service center, the impeller swap should be an hour job.

Seems way high. That’s a standard 100 hr service that I can complete in 2 hours.

I am not sure what the shop time book states for labor for the above mentioned repairs. If the shop uses exactly what shop time states then yes it is higher than normal. I have a friend who is a mechanic and ntb uses shop time. So if repair is 3 hours book then that is what they charge. If you have time and mechanically inclined for me I find it better do my own repairs. I use sims Yamaha or boats.net for my Yamaha parts.

Maybe the service folks you used saw some of your past BBC posts and took offense.

It was just explained to me that the charges are the book rate and that's what they go by.

I actually got to sit there and watch them perform the service. They were highly efficient and got it done in half the time. I do understand them charging book time. On one hand, they've got a lot of overhead. And being able to perform the work efficiently makes them profitable.

Yeah, that's a lot of money for that service, but think about it this way....Plumbers and HVAC guys are expensive because you don't know how to fix the $hit yourself. Same applies to auto/marine mechanics. A little YouTube time can save you a lot of money.

My annual 2016 ZX225 runs about $400...after warranty runs out do oil/filter and plugs yourself...then take it in for the rest
