    Idle adjustment 99 225 Optimax

Can the idle on a 1999 225 Optimax be adjusted?
I would like to reduce the idle to the Factory Specs so that
    shifting will be easier.
    Serial number is 0G842489

Makes it hard to dock and load when you can not easily shift

I was thinking this might be a place to adjust?

I recommend getting the Mercury Manual for your motor.

#28 is the idle stop used to set roller position on cam , not to adjust idle speed ,#25 is throttle stop used to stop travel of arm for full throttle operation /prevent binding of linkages when wot is achieved also

    10-4. Thank you.

Can I troubleshoot to find what is causing the elevated idle RPM or is that something that will require somebody to 'plug in' to find the issue?

Does adjusting any of these stops not change the throw of the TPS therefore changing the rpms?

Adjusting the stops will NOT change the RPM'S. The TPS self learns at key-up.....again the RPM'S are computer controlled.

Do you have a hot foot?

As indicated, idle speed is ECM controlled. Make sure the idle position is correct, and that throttle is consistently returning to this position EVERY time. If you have a hotfoot, they often require cleaning, lubrication and periodic spring adjustment.

Once all of the above have been completed, check the actual idle RPM's in the water, in neutral and in gear (really need an inductive-pickup tachometer, or suitable diagnostic tool for this purpose).
