    Question Fast Strike 150 '97 RPM's

Before I shoot this off to a mechanic, I was hoping for a little insite on these motors...

1997 Johnson Fast Strike 150, J150GLEUE ? It's on a Ranger R82 Sport that I bought from my Dad. He's had it maintained at a shop in Llano (?)....guy by the name of Blake...in other words, it's been taken care of.

The issue is WOT, this boat reaches 4800 RPM at 50 flat, just me, a trolling motor and two power poles....motor is hung on a 6" jack plate, wanna say about 3". Spinning a Renegade 23 4 blade.

This boat has never ran over 50. Compression is within specs, new plugs...I tried a Tempest 23p, but the prop blows out when the bow lifts and won't plane. Planes great with the 4 blade, but again, 4800 at 50...

Any ideas what might be happening?

    Thanks

Operating range is 4500-5500 with HP rated at 5000 RPM. Chances are the linkages are out of adjustment. Click on this link for the adjustment. http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread.php?t=11790

This was out of adjustment. It was like the 1st photo on that thread. I moved it to touch like photo 3.

Will lake test it in the morning while it's still cool out....appreciated

Hope that helps. I have a '96 on a Stratos 201 20'4" I am turning the same 23 Renegade 4 blade. Bob's 6 inch plate with a wedge @5400 fastest I have seen is 59.6 light load. Runs a normal load right at 54-56

I hope that's all it is...curious how that small of adjustment makes that much difference. Don't roast me...I know small things matter, especially on small engines

After making that adjustment, lake tested this morning...no difference. 4800 RPM @ 50 mph. Oh well....guess I'll just have to live with it and just fish.

You are trimming it out to get the most lift correct. I'm running a 92 150 Fast Strike on a 93 481V 10 inch JP. 60.1 GPS 5200 RPM only me in the boat. 23 tempest trimmed out

Yes...trimmed correctly. Wake comes off hull behind seats. I'm going to try a 21 pitch 4 blade and see how that goes.

Tempest won't get on plane unless I baby the throttle for a long time...actually lost 600 rpm and 6 mph.

Any plugs in the tempest....sometimes it takes one or two solid plugs to keep them from blowing out. If going to 4 blade you need less pitch due to the extra blade.

    you get 60.1 with your 481v and a 150hp?

    I have a 95 481v with a 95 Fast Strike 4blade prop and turning 5800rpms I only get 53 GPS. Fastest I ever got was 58 by myself..
