    Landing; am I missing something?

Hello, my dad recently purchased a Vexus 2180cc and while its a nice boat he has had one glaring problem with it- its extremely difficult to put it on the trailer straight- he has had V-bows in teh past and this one has a flat hull underneath and is causing him so much trouble that he is considering selling it if he could get back what he put in (only about 5 hours on the motor.) Has anyone else experienced this or a similar problem?

Sounds like He might have too much trailer in the water. I find the Vexus hull very easy to put back on trailer.

We were wondering about that, its the first time with 4 wheels instead of 2 and the dealer recommended only getting in so far so we are gonna try that the next time we go out. Ideally we need him to be able to do it essentially by himself when he goes out with my mother (hes 74 and shes in her upper 60s)

I’d find a quiet launch and practice with various amounts of trailer in the water. Most of the time my trailer fenders are slightly above water. I do back all the way in to wet my carpet then pull up some. And if I was that age (and will be one day ) I’d invest in one of those auto bow latches and trailer steps.

The ramp on my home lake is steep and it was a bit of a learning curve to find the sweet spot. But that’s just it a sweet spot and it’s probably going to be different at every ramp.

I usually go a little bit shallow so I know the boat will square up on the bunks. If I don’t get it to the roller I hook up tighten the strap and back in a little deeper then winch it the rest of the way up.

I also have to second Kenny’s assessment on steps. I know the guy that owns TrickStep and saw some of the early prototypes. My inner he man woman hater would not let me be a whimp. I swallowed my pride and put a set on my Vexus last year. Yeah at 60 I had waited too long

my 2180CC has the same issue. Boat tracks about 3" to the left when loading, what i noticed that the boards on the trailer are not square with the tongue. The only thing i can think would be to modify the trailer at this point.

my 1980cc with single axle is the same way. Off probably two inches to the left every time.

If you’re consistently loading to the left (mine does) try one of these two; walk to the left side of the back deck and hop on it (not like feet of the deck stomping) if after trying that a time or two and it doesn’t work try turning the wheel to left and lightly bump the throttle. Either of those methods has settled mine.

Here is what I do. Slide the boat up on the trailer motor up part way, hang my head over the side and look back at the side bunk. Turn the wheel and and motor up some to kick the back of the boat over. Then motor straight up the rest of the way. You will get to know how much space between the side bunk and the boat you will need to hit it just right. I have a single axle aluminum.

I need to try putting the trailer in a little shallower then, I'm a mess at getting it straight. Is it OK to use the motor to push it up to the roller?

Being cautious and asking questions is a great approach when you are a first time boat owner. You will figure it out and get better at it.

Normal procedure is to figure out how far to back trailer in that let's the boat get within a few feet of the front roller then use big engine to power it forward. That is the essence of a "self loading" trailer. It may take a few times to figure out just how much of the fender stays out of the water to be in the right spot. Also not unusual to winch it up by hand the last 2-3" sometimes.
