Hey guys, im about to pull the trigger on a new boat, ballistic most def has my attension but am torn between a 300r and a 400r, can anyone actually running running one post some realistic numbers so i know which direction to go, i wanna know if the extra 12 grand for the 400r is worth it, thx
Brian Dodge had a 400r on my 2020 Ballistic 202. He hit a top speed of 107.9MPH. When I purchased the boat it had a brand new 250 Pro XS 4 stroke. My best so far is 79.8 MPH. I now have 26 hours on it so time to see what it will do. With two guys 200 + lbs each, full fuel, live wells full and lots of tackle it will run 78 MPH and cruises at 74MPH. One other thing to keep in mind the racing engines require 93 octane fuel. My local dealer just had a warranty issue declined by Mercury because the customer ran less than 93 octane in his 300r.
On Mercury’s website it states 87 octane as a minimum requirement for the 300r

.223 and .204 with 300R has a top speed around 91-92 loaded to fish, 250 is around 80-82 as stated above. With a 250 getting an R motor is really not necessary because you do not need the sportmaster lower unit. The only real difference is solid motor mounts and lower unit between a racing motor and the Pro XS. And the stickers are cooler on the R motors.. lol
With a 300R there is quite a bit of difference between that of a proXS. Intake and exhaust runners are different. computer tuned. Rev limiter. Mounts. And lower unit chambers skeg on a sport master. The 250 is the one that really o ly has motor mou ts and lower unit.

Med to,lite load, the 223 300R will run low-mid 90’s. With Mercury cleaver, it’ll,run into mid-high 90’s.
