    Tracker pt170 outboard upgrade

Hey guys, I have a 2007 pt170 with the original Mercury 25hp 4-stoke, I’m pulling the trigger on a 2021 Mercury 50hp 4 stroke tomorrow and was wondering if anyone knew which mounting hole I needed to install the motor in? I assume it needs to be higher because of the length of the new outboard.

Are you getting a short or a long shaft? Usually they mount on the 2nd hole. Why not just shoot for the 60 since it is the upper tier of that class motor.

@extremeboating- my boat says the maximum rated horsepower is 50hp, and the motor is used so I’m getting a pretty good deal. Turns out the shaft is the same as my 25hp so i mounted in the same holes, I have yet to test it because of all the recent rain.

Upgrade it to the 60. They are the same 1.0L motor as long as yours is a 4 stroke EFI. They are just choked down to turn it into a 50.
