    98 ZX202c Restoration

    Hello Gents!

Purchased my first glass boat last winter and have been chasing prop slip all summer. Finally took a core sample of the foam from the bow and the stern and yup... soaked. I've made the decision that after tournament season is done I'm going to tear her down do a full restore. I've restored a couple aluminum boats in the past and are familiar working with electrical and polyurethane foam but have zero glass experience. I'm hoping some of you guru's can point me in the direction of some resources so I can start studying up. I know youtube is the place for diy but there is also a lot of miss-information on there as well. If I'm going to do this I want to do it right. I'm actually really looking forward to this and will definitely be sharing the build on here.

    Question:
Once I get the deck frames and top cap removed I'm left with the glass floor front to back which I assume is mainly used to create a void where the foam is injected at the factory. My thinking would be to cut multiple large ports to remove/re-pour foam while keeping as much of the liner intact as possible to keep the hull from relaxing. Sound about right?

If the foam is soaked....I would imagine any wood under there would be soaked as well. My 2006 Skeeter had wood in the deck and it was supposed to be "all composite construction" so I guess that a 98 would probably have wood in the stringers and such.

There's only one way to find out. I'm sure this project is going to through me a couple curve balls. With the way the pre-owned market is up here in Canada right now I really don't have a choice but to dive head first. Found a local guy that is going to re-spray the top clear coat. Lots of work ahead but she's going to be show room ready come spring.

hey Andrew....here's a video of Skeeter factory build ( ). It's newer than your boat but interesting...shows some of how they're assembled. If you contact Zach (he's good to deal with) at Skeeter, maybe he could tell you if there's wood in stringers or transom of your boat?
