I'd start at 4.25" ptp and work up from there. I repowered my 98zx202c with the same motor this season. The Jonny/rudes like to run a little deeper than yam/merc.
That’s a lot of go for that TZX. About 25 more to my recollection. That motor debuted in 1993 and I ran the Rude XP followed by a 95 Vindicator. Very strong motor and will easily push that little bug to upper 70’s. Since you have the surplus power I would run a 4 blade. What prop/pitch do your currently have?

Currently running the renegade 25p
At 3.5ptp I’m getting 66mph
water pressure high at 25+
This is 1 person, 3/4 tank gas
so you saying go down to 4.25” below pad ?
Forgot to add Rpms at 5400-5500
You are right at the wall for a 25 Renegade. Getting 5% slip at WOT is pretty good. You need a 26 Tempest plus or Raker clone. I am thinking these will give you 2-300 more RPM’s and the bigger pitch will move you along faster. Maybe low 70’s at 5800 RPMs and 5-7% slip. This would be optimum IMO

you dont think coming up on the plate would get the extra rpm's ?
Absolutely! You can come up quite a bit in fact. Just saying, you have a good prop. It’s delivering solid performance for 5500. Expect approximately 1 mph for each 100 rpm gained. Come up approximately 1” and see what your water pressure says. Then repeat in 1/4” increments. It’s a pain in the a$$ but the only way to dial in a fixed plate. The higher you go the more like to have excessive torque or bite issues in turns. All subjective. Suggest running it a long while at plus 1 and get a feel for the OAL performance before proceeding to the next 1/4”. Once you lose water pressure back it up 1/4” or back to the best OAL feel.

I’ll be going out this weekend to test. Fuel pump diaphragm busted and to deal with it this week.
any suggestions to replace fuel pump. Can a inline 4-5 psi fuel pump be used ? Really don’t want to spend $500 to replace the vro pump
I finally got some updates and would like some input please. I got the Johnny 225 HO checked out and its compression and all is good. Seems to run better with a lower prop to pad. I reduced speed when i start going up.
Here's what I got: 2004 Skeeter tzx200, 2000 Johnny 225hp HO (carbs) , 12" slidemaster jackplate, original 26P Raker Prop (no work done to it yet) 4.25prop to pad, 5800-5900 RPM, both tanks 1/2 full, by myself 220lb = top speed of 66-67 mpg gps
If I get the prop worked, what ballpark speed should this boat run ? At 5000 rpm I'm cruising at 62. at 5800-5900 I'm at 66-67 ish so I'm slipping pretty good on higher rpm range ?

new power pack and new stator installed. raised ptp and settled on the following:
Johnny 225 HO w/ carbs
1.86 gear ratio
Raker 26 (unworked )
2.5 below pad
5700-5800 RPM
69.5 gps top speed
1/2 tank gas
25+ water pressure
not sure if I can get any more from the setup
I've never seen a raker that didn't need work. Not once not ever.

Thanks for response. I know you’re very knowledgeable
and I greatly appreciate your insight. How much of a difference
In a Johnny 1.86 gear ratio to Yammie 1.75 gear ratio when looking
at top end ?

If you're propped correct, there shouldn't be any difference.
The theory is, if you're running a lower gear ratio, you can run a higher pitch prop, if they both are at 10% slip, the larger prop is a bit faster, but that's a theory.

With you vast knowledge, what is the real horsepower of the Johnny 225 HO ?
My vast knowledge is void of Johnrude details. I know it's a strong motor, but how strong? Dunno, let's see what kind of prop you can twist.

all the old info I can find on zx 200 skeeters are posted with 200 hp VMAX SHO 4.2 liter yamaha motors.
the performance bulletin shows at 5750 rpm top speed was 67.5 with a 25 pitch prop (15 1/8" diameter )
Im trying to figure out what best performance to expect if setup right with
the Johnny if its giving at least 225 hp. the Johnny is a 3 liter carbed 2 stroke
the testing options were the roughtly the same with weight, fuel etc
