prop shaft carrier seals
Hello,
I installed new seals on the gear case but the prop shaft is leaking air still. I was trying to order the 2 seals only. I bought the kit before . But I'm not sure of the correct seals. My LU was replaced at some point before I bought the boat and it is an older LU. I have the part number for the carrier 332139. Does anyone know the seal part numbers or a link?
thank you for the help

The dual seal part number is 0334950 $16.99 each from www.marineengine.com don't think you've got the right number for the rear bearing carrier. The Original part number was 50000605 and superceeds to 5004257 lists for $309.74

Hello ChampioNman,
Hope you have been doing good. Thank you for the answer. The number 332139 is from the carrier itself when I had it off. Should I just try the dual seal part number you listed? Just feeling nervous to do something wrong again. Thanks for the help

Took me a while of digging but the carrier there for your gear case is from a late 80's motor. The 0332139 up levels to 0397094. So the seals you need are 0320862. You have an old style 1 piece drive shaft case. Looks like someone swapped the case on you.

Thank you very much sir. Just ordered it from eBay. Best price and shipping on eBay.

Hello,
How are you all? Can I get any tips for putting the prop shaft seals back in the carrier?

Seal driver works fine but a socket works as well. On those seals they are mounted metal side back to back so the spring side on the fist one goes in facing the carrier and the rear seal's spring is facing the prop like this ][

Hello ChampioNman,
Good morning. Thank you again for the advice. I did end up using a socket. Going to do the pressure test soon. I am letting the gasket sealant set up- (but don't really know how long needed, if even needed)
-
Results: slight leak from the pressure gauge to hose area on my diy tester.
-
Just went and put soapy water around the 3 shafts: all three had no air bubbles. Smiles
-
Water test: Wouldn't go into reverse. I have since taken the shift cable off from the engine. I could manually shift. Guessing there is a problem with the shift cable. Can anybody give me some tips? I am going to buy that manual from the link here as soon as I get the storage usb.

On muffs at home, was going into reverse. At ramp on trailer, was going into reverse. Then when I backed down more and went to reverse off -- no reverse.

shift linkage on the block should be parallel to the crank case seam. Shift rod adjustment has to be 21 15/16" from the deck of the case to the center line of the shift rod eye in neutral.

Hello ChampioNman,
Thank you again. Really what I am nervous about at this point is taking the side mount control apart and getting the cable out from both ends. I did read a post you made for another person about his.
I was in Crawfordville, FL last week. I drive for the company that delivers to Winndixie. Just had noted that is one of the places you stay.
Thanks again for the help.

Pretty much year round in Crawfordville now. Not too far from the W/D. If you are going to pull the cable, pull it from the motor side. Just tie a pull cord to the control end.
-
Could you give me a quick description on removing and taking apart the side mount control box? I know it is probably easy but I haven't done it before. I have been looking at the shift cable replacement steps in the manual(bought and downloaded last night). But I will remove cable from engine side and tie cord off the other end.
Thank you ChampioNman

Surface mount or concealed side mount? If concealed side mount is it the chrome handle or the Gray plastic handle with the push button for neutral lock out?
-
It is a surface side mount.

Easy peezy remove the two bolts/screws from the side and off it comes. If they are bolts you'll have to hold the nuts from the back. Flip it over and take apart from the back side. Click on the link and you'll see the exploded parts diagram. https://www.marineengine.com/parts/j...4046&sid=39312
