Alpha Angler has the best rods I've seen and used yet for under $300
They are direct to consumer to help keep that price.

I’ve tried my buddy’s ALX Zolo it’s not in the same league as an Expride.

I'd have to agree. Out of all the rods I've tried the ALX rods don't really impress me on sensitivity. I do enjoy fishing my Toadface for swimjigs, but its not because of sensitivity.

This is me too, I have all Edge rods. The nfc blanks are excellent and when on sale i really don't think they can be beat plus I like to support made in USA when possible. They run a lot of 30% off sales which is when I get rod happy.

However, ratings are all over the place depending on blank line (IM vs HM vs X-Ray) and I've learned a great deal about NFC over the past year and a half about what fits where. The website ratings are very misleading, it's best to call and ask for Steve Pitcock and have a run down of what you are after. He can tell you what blanks the rods are built off of if you haven't delt with them before, he can also give you true lead times and what's in stock. I usually get the in-stock rods within a week of order but I've had some rods take a couple months to have built. I've been upgraded from the first strike to the black widow for free just because the build time was lengthy and the BW was in stock so I got a black widow for $171 bucks during one of their 30% off sales which is a steal.

I think the cork handle Daiwa Tatula fishes way above its price point. But right at $300 i would say Orochi XX

My vote would be for the Orochi XX. I think there are a lot of great options under that price point, and I've owned quite a few of them, but for me the Orochi XX rods are the best option.

Sensitivity is over rated for most techniques. A $100 can be just as effective as a $500 dollar rod.

The way the rod is built and the action of the rod is more important to me.

Jigs and drop shot would be the only techniques that would need some sensitivity in a rod.

So you're saying I don't need a Loomis Conquest to throw Whopper Ploppers? That Dude at the store lied to me. Brian.

Who spends over $300 for a rod? I don't even spend that much on a rod and reel combo, the BPS carbon light, Pro Qualifier, Cranking stick rods work just fine for me. Or if you don't like BPS the Abu Garcia Veritas, Ducket Ghost/ Silverado series and the Falcon Jason Christie series rods are great as well.

I rarely look at rods under 300 dollars at this point but there's a reason many of these high end rods are on back order

Some under 300's not in the thread.

I think you would be surprised how many anglers spend $500 on rods
$300 is an entry level bottom contact rod
