    Mohawk River

Anyone fish for walleye on the Mohawk? Why have the walleye gotten so big in recent years or is catching a 5-6-7lber always been normal? I'm targeting Smallmouth but seem to catch more walleye than bass

Walleye run in year classes quite a bit. Just a good class showing up. Lack of fishing last year also helping numbers. Same thing happened at otsego. enjoy the catch and let them go. Big walleye is an amazing fish!! Eat the 15" ers.

My cousin has been fishing otsego quite a bit and has said the same thing. Apparently word got out and people are willing to deal with the boat ramps and locals to fish there. I know Susquehanna bass fishes there and canadarago few times a year. With that many boats on the water it’s soon to be outed

Probably fishing has shutdown due to all of the flooding. I’m up river of him and it’s been at flood stages for the past 2 weeks. Water looks like yoohoo. Good news is it seems the water dropped about 2’ in the past couple days but still have about 5 to go before it gets to normal level

It was low with dams open. Stopped this morning and things are getting back to normal.

The Mohawk has always had a good numbers of walleyes and big ones - the numbers overall seem to be up in recent years. Gobies are in there now, as well as the Hudson but this is very recent and not large numbers of them yet . . . that will change . . . as will the fishing.
