Prop for 2006 z19 ranger with 2021 225 pro xs

I repowered my 2006 ranger z19 with a 2021 225pro xs. Wondering if anyone else is running this set up and wondering about prop and PTP” thank you!

The Z19 was one sweet machine and you might be the only Z19 with one?

I am running a 12 Z519 with a 12 Pro XS and the specs are about as close as it gets to a Z19. I’m seeing low 70’s with a 25 Tempest but only on flat water and mid to upper 60’s with a Croxton 24 Razor XL with a touch more cup. Boat likes smooth water. Great bow lift and tracks clean but gets bit too loose in the chop for me so low to Mid 60’s is best about all around easy going speed. My larger boats loved a little chop to air out the hull and delivered the highest top end but this Ranger is just not rock solid enough. If it tracked better in the chop I bet mid 70’s is doable. I’m just a little to old and no longer care to push that envelop. Tell me about how yours handles, I am curious about handling characteristics?

as far as the 21 V8, I have a few friends with the new motor and they are seeing a consistent 4 MPH loss over the 2 stroke and turning 2”-3” smaller pitch. He is still playing with his new 2020 721 Bird but I drove it to 74 MPH with a 250 V8. He claimed 78 with his previous like for like Bird. The new 4 strokes are requiring some extra break in time and lots more tinkering with props but still hearing a consistent theme.

My v8 has so much more torque than my 2 stroke, I’m seeing similar speeds but never felt like I have had either one dialed in tournament loaded I’m seeing 65mph and feel I should be closer to 70. Empty I can run 70 and it drives great

Iv ran a 24p bravo xs at 1-3/4” PTP at 6040 rpm 65mph and a 23p fury at 5700 rpm at 67mph with a 2-1/4”PTP thought spinning more RPM would be faster but this motor has been a different animal trying to prop

so a 24 Bravo is similar to a Razor. I am seeing 68/69 by myself and 65/66 heavy, two 200 plus boys, full livewells, etc… Rocket ship hole shot and mid range. The 25 Tempest has more of a break over hole shot that digs a bit longer before falling onto pad but will deliver 69/70 heavy, full livewells and two people. Like I said before, It needs a long flat glassy runway to wind it up over 70. I don’t consider my PTP as I have an Atlas so I feel my way up and have never actually measured the sweet spot. My experience is the sweet spot changes with load out, the ideal PTP while full of gas, livewells and gear is different at the end of the day, empty, no passengers, etc.

I’ve seen a 24 Fury pushing a 250 powered Eyra’s to 82 so it might need more wind up? The 5700 with the 23 is puzzling. I would have expected your RPM figures to be reversed suggesting you may have a bad 23. I do not know the gearing of the new V8 but I would run the calculator to derive the mathematical speed so you can calculate which one had more slip. Guessing by the numbers the 24 Bravo was slipping a lot.

I would not mind losing the oil res. but how about cranking, my buddy is now running a pair of group 31’s as 1 bat. could not keep up with the electronics draw and retain enough to fire that beast. He’s running a dedicated cranking battery for a total of 5 and a full pro bird electronics set up.

Jim is running a 23 Fury 3 B&B by Mark Croxton with 1 person and full tanks it will hit 70 @ 6050 rpm. He is out of town for a few days but I am pretty sure those are the numbers from when I tested his boat.

I’m running a odyssey 31agm with 4 graphs all day and doesn’t hesitate it’s a great battery, also the new 4 strokes charge the battery quicker while running that the 2 strokes.

    Wouldn’t a 24 spin less rpm than a 23

You need to ask why you are getting 6000 rpms out of a 24 pitch 4 blade? Typically you go up one pitch when dropping a blade but you are getting contrary results. In my book your 23” prop is flawed in some way otherwise it should be hitting the rev limiter. If these are new props, try another in same pitch. Manufacturing is not consistent when it comes to props.

I used to run a 27 Tempest on my 07 Stratos 201 with Etec 225 HO for 74 mph. Once It started airing out it found a whole new gear and it kept gaining speed. Most folks expect to hit 75 right out the gate but most boats need time to develop. I can quickly get to upper 60’s with mine but it slows up a lot. Getting to 70 plus takes a little patceints with slow bumps of trim and jack, wait to see how she reacts. Bump her again slightly and she trickles up a couple more MPH each bump. Top speed is a constant variable of conditions. Water, waves, weight, temperature, etc… Best speeds are always on the coldest days. Cold air compresses more dense oxygen per cubic inch so you get a slightly hotter burn, more power. Also, is your new Merc broke in yet? She supposedly will deliver a new gear after 50 plus hours, so I’m told.

I know a 24p bravo is comparable to a 22p fury, I have 30hrs on the new motor so it may not be completely…

I have 30hrs on the new motor so it may not be completely… Obviously things are likely going to change with your results making it difficult to pick the right prop at this point.
you might want to give Mark a call and let him advise you on which way to go. He knows what he’s talking about.
